This Sunday will be the one-year anniversary of the fifth-largest earthquake ever to be recorded, forty miles off the northeast coast of Japan. The 9.0 quake started a tsunami with waves as high as thirty feet devastating the surrounding land.

The tsunami put over 300,000 people out of their homes, and 20,000 people were killed or are still missing. No matter how long it takes, the Japanese people are committed to seeing the cherry blossoms again on their land.

To honor the people of Japan, the Chancel Choir will present an anthem at the 10:30 service titled “Cherry Blossoms Will Return.” This song was composed by area musician Joan Cobb, with the Japanese portion of the text by our own Yoriko Hongo. Music director Todd Samra wrote the choir arrangement. Please come and hear our commemoration of this tragic event.
