Spring at Santa Lucia

Our annual parish picnic and camp-out at Santa Lucia Campground and Chapel is coming soon.

Join us for the Eucharist and picnic on Saturday, July 28, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
You may also join others in camping overnight on one or more nights from Wednesday, July 25, through Saturday, July 28.

Come and Relax: Come earlier in the day, and invite your family and friends to enjoy some time on the banks of the Big Sur River, or to be refreshed by the cool water. You may want to bring blankets, beverages, snacks, chairs, games, towels, and wading shoes.  The campground has bathrooms. If you are able, bring a few logs to fuel the fire.

The Eucharist: Our Eucharistic service will begin at 5:30 p.m. in our outdoor Santa Lucia Chapel under the trees overlooking the river. The band will lead our singing, and we will go on from there to enjoy the picnic.

The Picnic: Gwyn Romano and Susan and Don Britton will prepare barbecued chicken and their famous beans, and will also bring soda and water.  You are asked to bring a side dish, appetizer, dessert, or salad, and your preferred beverage.

The Camp-out: You are encouraged to join the other individuals and families that camp on one or more nights from July 25 through 28. There is no fee for this camp-out, but because space is limited it is important to make a reservation by calling the office so that we know how many to expect each night and can make room in the campsite for every family.  Maria Medina, our child care provider, will provide two hours of activities and crafts for the children each morning and afternoon. Most days there is an excursion on one of the nearby trails, or to Julia Pfeiffer Beach.  When you decide where to set up your tent/pop-up, please try to place it near another family or far enough apart so that a later-arriving family can set up in between.    We will plan to keep the cars near the picnic tables, with food inside the cars overnight. If necessary we will move the cars further up the driveway and add tents around the tables, where there is a sink, power plugs, a large BBQ pit, and trash cans. Bring your own camping supplies, food, swimming and hiking gear, and firewood.

RSVP by calling the church office, sending an e-mail, or placing your name on the reservation sheet in the back of the church.
