The Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real Spring Conference on May 17 is about listening to younger generations.
“Shut Up! Listen and Learn!” is the theme of this year’s Spring Conference on Saturday, May 17, at St. Paul’s in Salinas. No, we aren’t being rude! Today’s “Shut Up” isn’t always what you think. It might mean, “Really?? Get outta here!! No kidding!” . . . or in Spanish, “No me digas!”, literally, “You don’t say!”
In order to truly hear the words and intention of another person, we need to give them our full attention and take them into our being as fully as we can. Those over 50 often say they want younger generations in their congregations, but they don’t always take the time to listen to their concerns, desires and needs.
The conference will feature an interactive format with guest speaker Dwight Zscheile, an Episcopal priest, professor of congregational mission and leadership at Luther Seminary (St. Paul, MN), and author of books such as People of the Way: Renewing Episcopal Identity. The conference will also feature Rev. Rob Fisher, rector of St. Dunstan’s Church in Carmel Valley, and a panel of church members in their 20s and 30s. We’ll listen and speak across generations, enhancing our capacity to be the inter-generational church we envision.
