The Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service “National Day of Gratitude” will be held on November 24, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Monterey, 501 Eldorado Street, Monterey. Please bring non-perishable food items to help the Food Bank of Monterey County. Sponsored by the Interfaith Outreach of Carmel.
A Thanksgiving Service of Morning Prayer will be held at All Saints’ at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Bill Reed will lead the service.
Thanksgiving Day Dinner at All Saints’ – 1 p.m. pre-dinner and set up and 2 p.m. dinner – Bring something to share at the table. Grace Swearingen will provide a roasted turkey and dressing, but it is important that she knows how many people are coming and what they plan to bring, e.g. salad, cranberries, bread or rolls and butter, vegetables, other additions to the meal not yet suggested, pies or other pre-dinner snacks. There will be wine, coffee, and tea provided. Come join Grace if you can at 1 p.m. on Thursday, to set up, and prepare for this celebration. Food boxes outreach – December 3 – Every year the Outreach Commission packs and distributes 96 giant food boxes. Filled with flour, oil, soup and countless other food items, the boxes are distributed to those in need. All Saints’ parishioners assemble the food and then local Boy Scouts pack the boxes. This giving event happens at 9 a.m. in Seccombe Hall on Thursday December 3. If you can spare an hour, please do. Contact Hans Lehmann. If you know of someone who could use a box, notify the church office.
Christmas memorials—We welcome your donations to help adorn the church for Christmas. You may use the forms located at the back of the church and in the office, or send instructions along with your check, which must be received by Monday, December 21. The suggested donation is $20. Memorials and thanksgivings will be included in the Christmas bulletins.
Advent Quiet Day on Saturday, December 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. – We will begin in the Chapel with morning prayer. The day will include Lectio Divina and Taize.
Advent 2015 Lessons and Carols, Sunday Evening December 6 at 5:30 p.m. A traditional Advent worship service by candlelight. Light supper fare and refreshments to follow.
Saturday, December 12th A Dickensian Dinner at All Saints’ Church in Seccombe Hall – You are invited to gather at 5:30 p.m. for a wassail bowl, 6:15 p.m. for a sumptuous Victorian dinner, and 7:00 p.m. for entertainment and a carol sing. Reservations: $10 each – Seating Limited. Make your reservation by December 6th. Sign up at the back of the church or at the church office. Can you come help decorate for the dinner on Friday, December 11th at 11 a.m? All hands are welcome. Also, we would like to have an Old Fashioned Bazaar at the dinner. Can you contribute a few handicraft items to sell? All proceeds will go to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund.
December 23rd: Greening of the Church—Join hands with others in decorating the church for Christmas, starting at 10:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. Soup and sandwiches will be provided at noon.
December 24th Christmas Eve services will be held at 5:30 p.m. (Officiant: Holly Hudson-Louis) and at 9:00 p.m. (Officiant: Bishop Mary Gray-Reeves.) Christmas Carol Sing from 9:00 to 9:30.
Ushers needed for the 10:30 service – There is a pressing need for ushers to serve at our 10:30 a.m. service. This is an important and rewarding way to serve the church. Anyone can do it. Men and women welcome. Contact Don Britton at 831-455-5411 or email@example.com
Needed: lay Eucharistic ministers – We have a number of parishioners who cannot attend Sunday services yet still want to receive Holy Communion once in a while. We need licensed people who can make home visits and administer the sacraments. We can arrange the appropriate training.
