Sunday, August 28th – The 29th Annual Jewish Food Festival from 10:30 a.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 5716 Carmel Valley Road. Admission is free. Monday, August 29th – Prayerful Yoga – Creating space in the body through breath, movement, and stillness creates space in your heart and life. Join instructor Beth Lefevre in Seccombe Hall from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. No previous yoga experience is required. Donations go to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund.
Thursday, September 1st at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel: Our Contemplative Prayer Group continues its weekly meetings to practice Centering Prayer. We will begin with a short reading from Fr. Thomas Keating’s book, Open Mind, Open Heart, followed by Centering Prayer meditation, and a short discussion about our practice. Please join us even if you have not attended a workshop.
September 3-5, 2016 – Monterey Bay Greek Festival at the Custom House Plaza in Monterey. Be Greek for a weekend! Join our friends from St. John’s Orthodox Church this Labor Day weekend. Sample the mouthwatering traditional Greek food, dolmades, baklava and more as you watch traditional dance, listen to music, and even learn a little at a cultural lecture. The Monterey Bay Greek Festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 6pm and Monday from 11am to 4pm. General admission is free.
Tuesday, September 13: Join the All Saints’ Book Club on Tuesday, September 13th in the Library at 6:00 pm. We will be discussing Eric Larson’s In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin. Join us for discussion and a potluck meal. Seeking God, Seeking Christ: An Invitation to the Spiritual Journey. In September we will offer a six-week spiritual formation class for anyone who would like to attend. Those who are seeking baptism, confirmation, reaffirmation of vows, or membership at All Saints’ will be required to take the class. All are welcome and encouraged to come! The bishop’s visitation will be October 30th. On this spiritual journey we will learn about Anglican spirituality and its roots in the Benedictine way of spiritual practice. A sneak peek of themes includes: “The Invitation to the Journey: Listening for the Call”; “Commitment to Christ: The Path of Stability and Change”; “Trusteeship: Practicing the Presence of God in All of our Affairs”; “Living Together in Community”; “Prayer: The Mortar of Christian Community”‘ and “Finding Balance: Creating a Rule of Life”. Icons in Transformation – Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the GALA EXHIBIT OPENING on Sunday, September 25 from 5-8:00 p.m. Meet artist Mila Pawlowska and her husband Jan. Hear the story behind her artwork. Be among the first to see the 130 spectacular pieces, as Mayor Steve Dallas “cuts the ribbon” to unveil it. The art will be for sale, so Gala attendees have “first dibs!” Our own, Gwynn Romano has planned a delicious reception menu. Tickets are $50. We need you there AND to bring others Please purchase tickets at the back of the church, or on the church website, www.allsaintscarmel.org. Check out our website for a listing of the special speakers and concerts that will take place between September 25 and November 20, in addition to the art exhibition. Many are free of charge.
Volunteer opportunities for Icons in Transformation – All Saints’ Icons in Transformation exhibit will be open to the public Mon-Fri 10:-2:00, Sat-Sun 1-4. How many docent volunteers do we need? Our Memorial Garden Project is well on its way. Be sure to check out its progress whenever you are near the church. Consider buying a brick to commemorate a loved one in your family or reserve one for yourself. This project is being paid for completely with donations. Daily Morning Prayer – Welcome Happy Morning! You are invited to join All Saints’ parishioners every weekday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for music, prayers, and reflection at Morning Prayer in the All Saints’ Chapel of Saints Benedict and Scholastica (opening onto 9th Street).
Can you help us outfit our Retreat House? At the back of the church you will find a wish list for the cottage, our “new” retreat/guest house. We will be preparing the cottage for our first guest, Ludmila Pawlowska and her husband, in September. If you have any of the furniture items we are seeking or would like to contribute consumables, please write your name next to the item and give the list to an usher. Or, if you need some time, bring it to the church office, or just call, 624-3883. Please include your phone number so we can contact you when we are ready to collect items.
There is a need for sleeping bags and windbreaker jackets for those in need. Jackets need to be clean and light enough to roll up tightly. Marked containers will be under the tables by the front doors. Thanks from your Outreach Commission. Thanks from those in need.
Donations for the Food Pantry – The food pantry can use canned meats, tuna, peanut butter, canned fruit or vegetables, and toiletries. Please place donated items in the basket at the entrance to the church. Thank you for your generosity towards those in need.
