The altar flowers today are given to the Glory of God by Tom and Julie Bryan in honor of Julie’s mother’s 90th birthday, their son Jim and daughter Kate’s birthdays, and their granddaughter Georgia’s 4th birthday.
This morning we welcome mezzo-soprano Patricia Thompsen, a guest soloist from the Carmel Bach Festival who has graced our worship at All Saints’ many times before. Patricia made her Carnegie Hall solo debut singing Handel’s Messiah and has performed as soloist with numerous Bach Societies around the United States, as well as a number of other outstanding choral ensembles. But classical music is not all she sings—she’s performed Big Band music and is currently finishing a jazz recording project set for release in November. In addition to all this singing, Patricia is an associate professor of music at Kansas State University, and probably grows the biggest tomatoes in the state of Kansas in her community garden plot!
New or Noteworthy This Week
Help feed our community’s hungry by filling one of the red bags located under the table at the back of the church. Items that are needed most are printed on the bags. Many thanks from your Outreach Commission who will include your contributions in our daily food bags.
Time change and hiatus – TeatimeTheology with Rev. Amber (Wednesday afternoons at the Cypress Inn, please note the time change to 3:00 p.m.). Join her for tea, talk, and maybe some theology. The weeks of July 12 and 19 will be cancelled during Rev. Amber’s vacation time.
Visiting Clergy – The Rev. Canon Dr. Tudor Griffiths and his wife the Rev. Anna Griffiths from our sister diocese of Gloucester in the UK will be on sabbatical in our guest house, Dame Julian’s Cottage, for the month of July. They are arriving June 30th. The Griffiths will be taking the church services while Rev. Amber is on family vacation July 6 through 19. Please welcome them into our community keeping in mind they are here on retreat to study and rest.
The Bible Study Group will meet on July 26th from 10:30 a.m. until noon in the Library.
One service in Carmel on July 30th. Please note that there will only be one service in Carmel at 9:00 a.m. with Eucharist on the morning of the Annual Picnic, Sunday July 30th. An outdoor Eucharist will be held at Santa Lucia campground at 11:00 a.m. followed by the annual parish picnic.
All Saints Camping Weekend and Annual Church Picnic
Friday July 28th through Sunday, July 30th
Pull out your tents and camping gear and join parishioners for a fun weekend at our Big Sur Santa Lucia Campgrounds & Chapel Friday, July 28 – Sunday, July 30. Maybe you don’t camp, but you’d rather just come down for the day, or the evening to sit by the campfire? Either way, be sure you’re there for Sunday’s annual church picnic. The Brittons will be grilling the chicken and the rest of us will bring a potluck dish. Please plan to join in the fun and fellowship. There will be an outdoor Eucharist at 11:00 a.m. followed by the picnic at noon.
The All Saints’ Book Group meets in the Church Library on the second Tuesday of each month. We enjoy a light dinner at 6:00 and then begin our discussion at 6:30. Please bring something to add to the salad or a goodie to share. The August 8th book selection is a mystery, Appointed to Die: A Book of Psalms by Kate Charles. The theme of the 35th Annual Mary Lou Thompson Retreat is “Art Inspired by Faith.” The retreat leader is the Rev. Penelope Duckworth, artist and writer. Introduction to Centering Prayer

Mark your calendars! This fall we are going to be treated to a fabulous organ concert by Clay Couri to introduce our mighty new organ to the community. Clay’s program will encompass music of the 1600’s through the 20th Century. The pieces will be chosen to highlight the huge variety of registration available on our organ. Clay has also arranged for a superb tenor soloist to perform for us. The concert will be at 3 p.m. the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 24. Admission is free; there will be a donation basket. Refreshments will be served following the concert in Seccombe Hall.

The 2017 Altar Flower Calendar has been posted in the back of the church. Almost all dates in 2017 are now available for you to contribute flowers to honor or memorialize a special event or loved one. We ask for a minimum contribution of $65 which is the cost of the flowers. More than one person can sign up for that special Sunday – it is within the rules to have multiple dedications! Please contact Mila Murphy with any questions.
Our Memorial Garden Project has been completed. Consider buying a brick to commemorate a loved one in your family or reserve one for yourself. This is a beautiful meditative spot. Jana Gill is the contact if you have questions.
Donations for the Food Pantry – The food pantry can use canned meats, tuna, peanut butter, canned fruit or vegetables, and toiletries. Please place donated items in the basket at the entrance to the church. Thank you for your generosity towards those in need.
