New or Noteworthy This Week

Seeking God, Seeking Christ:  A Course on the Benedictine Spiritual Practices which enable us to live out the Gospel in companionship with Jesus Christ. Benedictine prayer and spirituality is the backbone of the Book of Common Prayer and therefore shapes our belief and understanding.  In the class we will explore worship, the daily office, lectio divina, and trusteeship, the baptismal covenant, rule of life, and the spiritual practices of listening and hospitality.  This class is foundational for understanding the mission of All Saints’ and everyone is encouraged to attend. * If you are seeking to become a member of All Saints’ this course is required for membership.  The Class will begin in the Fall.  TBA.

This month, with the choir still officially on break, we welcome others who like to sing but can’t make a commitment to Thursday rehearsals and Sunday warmups (or don’t feel you are “choir material”) to be part of the “Summer Pickup Choir” —if only for a single Sunday! We meet downstairs in the choir room at 9:00 am Sunday morning, practice a simple, easy-to-learn song, and present it during the Offertory. If interested, please talk to me after church or give me a call at 831 238-5102. The All Saints’ Choir will return on September 10th. All are welcome!  Jean Widaman.

Putting on the Mind of Christ:  Centering Prayer Meditation Workshop, Saturday, September 9th, 9:30am – 3:30pm.

Even if you have attended a Centering Prayer Meditation workshop before, it’s helpful to attend again until the practice clicks for you.

Cynthia Bourgeault says that the real work of Centering Prayer is to “lay the inner foundations for an entirely different kind of spiritual attentiveness. . . Centering Prayer opens up “attention of the heart.”  It will gradually lead you into a whole new reality, which some have likened to “putting on the mind of Christ.” Join us for the workshop and learn how to open yourself more fully to the presence of God in your midst.  To register contact Ray Krise at 831-624-3883, ext. 14.

A Walk through the Holy Eucharist:  Worship is the anchor and foundation for who we are as followers of Jesus Christ in the Episcopal tradition.  It is essential for our spiritual formation and growth.  When we come to worship it requires the sacrifice of our full attention – body, soul, spirit, and mind.  Keeping our attention focused on God takes practice and an understanding of what we are doing in each moment.  Join us each Sunday for Worship (Sept. 10, 17, 24, & Oct. 1) as we walk through the liturgy.

And Don’t Forget

Mark your calendars! This fall we are going to be treated to a fabulous organ concert by Clay Couri to introduce our mighty new organ to the community.  Clay’s program will encompass music of the 1600’s through the 20th Century.  The pieces will be chosen to highlight the huge variety of registration available on our organ.   Clay has also arranged for a superb tenor soloist to perform for us. The concert will be at 3 p.m. the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 24. Admission is free; there will be a donation basket.  Refreshments will be served following the concert in Seccombe Hall.

The 2017 Altar Flower Calendar has been posted in the back of the church.  Almost all dates in 2017 are now available for you to contribute flowers to honor or memorialize a special event or loved one.  We ask for a minimum contribution of $65 which is the cost of the flowers.  More than one person can sign up for that special Sunday – it is within the rules to have multiple dedications! Please contact Mila Murphy with any questions.

Our Memorial Garden Project has been completed. Consider buying a brick to commemorate a loved one in your family or reserve one for yourself.  This is a beautiful meditative spot.  Jana Gill is the contact if you have questions.

Announcement deadline – To be included in next Sunday’s bulletin, your announcement must be submitted by 11 a.m. on the preceding Wednesday.  Most special parish events are included in the announcements for three weeks before they occur.  Contact Ray Krise in the office at 831-624-3883.
