New or Noteworthy This Week
Outreach to Haiti.
All Saints’ has been part of the effort to help Haiti recover from their devastating earthquake seven years ago. We are partnered with St. Jude’s in Cupertino in this mission.
Last year Rev. Amber joined a mission trip to Locorbe, Haiti, to help assess the current needs of the St. Patrick’s school there and how best to assist the faculty, staff and students. Now, Fr. Noe from St. Andre’s in Hinche, Haiti will visit All Saints’ on Tuesday, April 17 at 2:30pm. Below is the itinerary.
2:30pm: Tour of All Saints’ Church
3:30pm: Meet with Peter Troop (St. Jude’s) and Rev. Amber
4:00pm: Presentation to All Saints’ about St. Andre’s and St. Patrick’s, Fr.
Noe and Peter Troop
5:00pm: Potluck Dinner
All are invited to participate in all or any of these activities.
Sunday, April 22nd – Bishop Mary’s Visitation.
There will be only one service, the 10:30 a.m. service. The bishop will Confirm, Receive, and Reaffirm Vows for those wishing to do so. (If you would like to be confirmed, received, or reaffirm your baptismal vows please speak to Rev. Amber). A potluck luncheon will follow.
Termite Tenting – Monday, April 23 through Thursday, April 26
The church and all contiguous buildings including the Office, Grant Hall and classrooms will be tented for termite fumigation Monday, April 23 through Thursday, April 26. There will be no access to any of these buildings during that period. All groups should be notified. If any questions, call Bill Martin, 831-620-2775 or email email@example.com.

Have you contacted your Gratitude Neighbor this week?
A YEAR OF GRATITUDE
At our Annual Meeting, we declared the year 2018 to be a YEAR of GRATITUDE.
On Ash Wednesday we started our Lenten Series, “Forty Days of Gratitude,” and from this initial intention we will find ways to practice gratitude in our lives and in our faith community.
The anthropologist Angeles Arrien says that gratitude crosses all cultural customs and serves to unite us, “When people in great numbers choose to practice, integrate, and embody gratitude, the cumulative force that is generated can help create this kind of world we all hope for and desire, for ourselves and for future generations.”
If we adapted this quote for All Saints’ it might read as follows:
“When the MEMBERS OF A PARISH in great numbers choose to practice, integrate, and embody GRATITUDE, the cumulative force that is generated can help create the kind of CHURCH we all hope for and desire, for ourselves and for future generations.”
We bolstered our intention to practice gratitude in our community by assigning a Gratitude Neighbor to each person. If you were not at the Annual Meeting it’s not too late to get a Gratitude Neighbor. Please let Rev. Amber know if you would like to participate.
Here’s how it works:
1) Receive the name of your Gratitude Neighbor
2) Contact your Gratitude Neighbor once a week to share a gratitude about something at All Saints’ (an event; something that touched you in worship; the flowers; a painting; someone’s kindness) or something you appreciate about the person (the Gratitude Neighbor). It only needs to be one thing; one statement of gratitude.
3) Sometimes we may need to reflect to discover what we are grateful for and sometimes it may feel more spontaneous.
4) You may contact your gratitude neighbor by e-mail, phone, text, or snail mail depending on the person’s preferred form of contact. The person receiving the gratitude does not have to respond unless they want to. The purpose is simply to pass on what you have received in gratitude.
5) We will practice this exercise until April 22nd at the Bishop’s Visitation, our next congregational gathering.
Now that Lent is over, beautiful altar flowers can return to the sanctuary. Most of the upcoming Sundays are available for YOU to donate the flowers and make a personal dedication. Please sign up on the calendar on the bulletin board in the back of the church. The minimum contribution is $65, the cost of the flowers. Please contact Mila Murphy with any questions. Also, if Mila has not contacted you regarding your dedication two weeks before your chosen Sunday, please get in touch with her.
Rise Against Hunger with Jews, Christians and Muslims United
Jews, Christians and Muslims United is an organization that builds bridges of understanding between our religions and people, works to strengthen our larger community, and reaches out to help the less fortunate around us. We have joined with Rise Against Hunger for our next special event. Rise Against Hunger is an organization that packs food for distribution for schools in needy communities worldwide where children often are lucky to get one hot meal a day.
We invite Jews, Christians, and Muslims from the Monterey Peninsula, along with others who love to serve, to join us on Sunday afternoon, April 15 at Congregation Beth Israel. Starting at 2:00 p.m. we will together package 10,000 individual meals. Rise Against Hunger brings all the food and materials that we will need to accomplish our goal. Our local religious communities must provide volunteers and raise about $2,944 to pay for the supplies (approximately 29 cents/meal).
We need at least 40 volunteers or more from our communities.
If many of us make a donation, we should be able to raise the needed money. Together we can feed children who otherwise may not get any meal that day. Let’s continue to build understanding between our religious communities as we join in acts of social justice!

The Episcopal Church Women – Day of Enrichment
The Episcopal Church Women invite all women, both clergy and lay of the Diocese of El Camino Real, to the Day of Enrichment on April 21, 2018 at St. George’s Salinas. Registration is $25.00. There will be an exploration of the opportunities and resources for women – young women and older women – in their lives of career, mother, wife. The speakers’ panel will include Margaret Snow of Year-Up, Muffie Wiebe Waterman, PhD and Mary Richardson, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Bring donations to the Church Periodical Club, which supplies books, magazine, tapes, videos and computer programs free to those who cannot otherwise obtain them. Registration deadline is April 13th. Ensemble Monterey Concert at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Carmel Saturday, April 28, 2018
Ensemble Monterey joins forces with the vocal ensemble Cantiamo and the Cabrillo Youth Chorus for their season finale, presenting the Brahms Serenade Number 1 in D Major in the original nine part instrumentation, Rihards Dubra’s Te Deum and the Chichester Psalms of Leonard Bernstein. Conductors John and Cheryl Anderson invite the audience to Conductor’s Notes, an informative and informal talk about the music, one hour before the performance. St. Dunstan’s Organ Concert Series continues
Alfred Yoon, high school senior and young organist whose talent far outstrips his years presents a concert on April 15th. Help feed our community’s hunger by filling one of the red bags located under the table at the back of the church. Items that are needed most are printed on the bags. No glass items please.
