All Saints’ Episcopal Church – Announcements – August 19, 2018

The Altar Flowers are given to the Glory of God by Bob and Kathy Nielsen in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary and the August wedding of their son, Andrew.


A special All Saints’ Welcome to the Rev. Vincent Raj, who joins us this morning as visiting Presider and Homilist.


Once again, the annual PASTA WITH THE PASTORS is coming up.

It is I-HELP’s major fundraiser of the year and will be held on Thursday, August 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. at the San Carlos Parish Hall in Monterey.  As you know, the I-HELP men are a group of homeless men whom ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH feed and house once a month.  If you would like to attend the dinner, tickets are available at the door, $20.00 per meal.  In addition to dinner, there will be live entertainment, testimonials from program participants, and a silent auction.   Or, if you would like to make a donation or find out more about the I-HELP program, please see anyone on the Outreach Committee.  Thanks.  Hans Lehmann 624-0540


Episcopal Relief & Development partners with NorCal Diocese to aid fire victims

Episcopal Relief & Development is partnering with the Diocese of Northern California to provide emergency support to help the most vulnerable in communities impacted by the Carr Fire that started on July 23.  The agency is providing support for rental assistance, short-term storage for recovered belongings, food, gasoline and replacement of lost household supplies.

“The diocese and congregations are working together taking into account lessons from last year’s devastating fires,” said Katie Mears, Senior Director of Episcopal Relief & Development’s US Disaster Program. “It is heartening to witness the church work together at all levels to monitor the fires, assess damage and help those most in need.”

Please support Episcopal Relief & Development’s response to the wildfires in California by donating to the US Disaster Fund and praying for all those impacted.


Altar Flowers

Most of the upcoming Sundays are available for YOU to donate the flowers and make a personal dedication.  Please sign up on the calendar on the bulletin board in the back of the church.  The minimum contribution is $65, the cost of the flowers.  Please contact Mila Murphy with any questions.  Also, if Mila has not contacted you regarding your dedication two weeks before your chosen Sunday, please get in touch with her.

Hike with Bishop Mary on the Central Coast

Members of the diocese and the public are invited to join Bishop Mary Gray-Reeves for a scenic hike in Andrew Molera State Park on Saturday, September 15. Children are welcome along with family and friends.

Hikers can choose either a round trip of six-plus or nine-plus miles; in between, we’ll gather on a hidden beach cove for lunch. The outbound hike is more than three miles along the Bluffs Trail overlooking the Big Sur coastline, with a choice of returning back along the bluffs or returning up and along six miles of the Ridge Trail. Hiking boots are suggested for either option and walking sticks should be used if you plan to return along the Ridge Trail. Bring your own lunch and plenty of water!

Save the date: Centering Prayer and the Soul’s Journey into God 

The fruits of Centering Prayer are numerous and emerge slowly in stages through our daily surrender to love in the practice of this prayer. The evolution of our soul is the principle gift to us out of this deep abiding in divine love. A weekend retreat, “Centering Prayer and the Soul’s Journey into God,” is being offered November 9-11 by the Mercy Center Centering Prayer Program in Burlingame. Inspired by Bonaventure’s “The Soul’s Journey into God,” we will explore the life of St. Francis of Assisi who embodied the unity of all things in himself. Bonaventure reflects on St. Francis as a model for union with God through prayer, whereby one is able to see Christ in all beings, even the most neglected.

Facilitated by the Rev. Amber Sturgess and Joy Andrews Hayter, PhD., join us for a weekend – with God, a praying community, and the natural beauty of the Mercy Center grounds – to deepen our consent to this transformation. For details and registration information, see the church bulletin boards.
