Jean Widaman

Interim Choir Director

Jean Widaman, who was Choir Director at All Saints’ from 1999 until retiring in 2010, returned in November 2016 to serve as Interim Choir Director. Growing up in Santa Monica, she discovered the joy of choral singing with children’s and youth choirs at the local Methodist church. She received her B.A. from Occidental College, a Teaching Credential from USC, and a Ph.D. in historical musicology from Brandeis University. Before graduate school she taught classroom music, beginning instruments and choir for children in elementary and middle schools. She then taught at Boston College, the University of Oklahoma, Bowling Green State (Ohio), and the University of Kansas before returning to the west coast. In Monterey County since 1991, Jean has taught at MPC and CSUMB, in local elementary schools and with Youth Orchestra Salinas (YOSAL), and for ten years led singing with nursing home inhabitants. She has sung with the Carmel Bach Festival Chorus since 1992. A lover of poetry and the natural world around us, she is a docent at Tor House, the home of poet Robinson Jeffers.
