Lenten Series-“The Time Is Now”

Soup & Salad Luncheon with Discussion In The Time Is Now, Sister Joan Chittister--a rabble-rousing force of nature for social justice and fervent proponent of personal faith and spiritual fulfillment--draws on the wisdom of prophets, both ancient and modern, to help us confront the societal forces that oppress and silence the sacred voices among us. Pairing scriptural insights with narratives of the truth-tellers that came before us, Sister Joan offers a compelling vision for readers to combat complacency and to propel ourselves toward creating a world of justice, freedom, peace, and empowerment. For the weary, the cranky, and the fearful, this energizing message invites us to participate in a vision for a world greater than the one we find ourselves in today. This is spirituality in action, this is practical and powerful activism for our times. Wednesdays, March 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9 To register, contat Rev. Wisdom Days: Contemplative Wisdom Practices

Facilitated by Rev. Amber Sturgess & Heather Ruce Contemplative wisdom practices have their origins in the ancient world and come down to us through various traditions such as The Rule of St. Benedict, the wisdom teachings of Jesus, and the Fourth Way work of G.I. Gurdjieff. Cynthia Bourgeault says that wisdom work “comes above ground at times when the planet is going through changes or when consciousness is about to take a major leap to a new place, a new level of understanding.” We invite you to join us for the series of Wisdom Days. The contemplative wisdom practices will consist of Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, wisdom teachings from Cynthia Bourgeault on video, conscious labor (physical work), and sacred dance taught by Heather Ruce. Amber Sturgess is an Episcopal priest, Spiritual Director, and retreat leader. Heather Ruce is a Wisdom Spiritual Director, teacher, and retreat leader. Preregistration with Rev. Amber by January 10, 2025. Remaining sessions: APRIL 11-12 (2 DAY RETREAT)* MAY 17TH: 9:00AM – 1:00PM JUNE 7TH: 9:00AM – 1:00PM

I-HELP Men

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink...." Matthew 25:35 Join our volunteers in cooking and serving a delicious hot meal, then dine and converse with the men who are enrolled in the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (I-HELP). This evening the men will be welcomed, fed, and housed in our church facility. Our relationship with them is priceless. "I-HELP is the only emergency shelter open every night in the Monterey area without a waiting list for men and women: a hot meal, a safe place and a caring community."
