All Saints' Church 9th Ave & Dolores St, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, United States

Centering Prayer, a form of meditative prayer called the “prayer of the heart”, is rooted in the teachings of Jesus and of the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the early church. Through the practice of Centering Prayer we learn how to surrender to love, to abide in divine love, and to enjoy the numerous fruits of the practice: appreciation of silence and solitude, less susceptibility to stress, deeper reverence for the divine in and through nature, willingness and commitment to a life of reconciliation and peace, and longing for and realization of our full union with God, with humanity, and with all life forms on our planet. The practice of Centering Prayer encourages us to cultivate an open mind, heart, and will as we seek spiritual transformation in Christ.

  • Wisdom Days Contemplative Wisdom Practice

All Saints' Church 9th Ave & Dolores St, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, United States

Contemplative wisdom practices have their origins in the ancient world and come down to us through various traditions such as The Rule of St. Benedict, the wisdom teachings of Jesus, and the Fourth Way work of G.I. Gurdjief. Cynthia Bourgeault says that wisdom work "comes from above ground at times when the planet is going through changes or when consciousness is about to take a major leap to a new place, a new level of understanding."  We invite you to join us for the series of Wisdom Days. The contemplative wisdom practices will consist of Centering Prayer, Lectio Deivina, wisdom teachings from Cynthia Bourgeault on video, conscious labor (physical work), and sacred dance taught by Heather Ruce.    Amber Sturgess is an Episcopal priest, Spiritual Director, and retreat leader.  Heather Ruse is a Wisdom Spiritual Director, teacher, and retreat leader. • Bach’s St. John Passion

All Saints' Church 9th Ave & Dolores St, Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, United States

Join us for J.S. Bach's St. John Passion, performed by the Central Coast Chamber Choir (C4), the chamber ensemble of I Cantori di Carmel, under the direction of Daniel Henriks. Soloists include Steven Caldicott Wilson (Evangelist), Morgan Balfour, Gabriela Estephanie Solís, and Matt Peterson, joined by a period-informed ensemble drawn from musicians across the Central Coast. Presented in an intimate setting, this performance brings the work into close focus, where the story unfolds with directness, clarity, and presence. Each evening begins with a pre-concert lecture at 6:45 PM by David Gordon, tenor and music historian widely regarded as one of the preeminent Evangelists of his generation. His insight offers a fun and compelling way into the dramatic and historical world of the piece. Following the performance, audiences are invited to stay for a post-concert reception with the artists and ensemble, an opportunity to connect more directly with the musicians and the work.
